.NET Framework modernisation

Your .NET application has years of business knowledge in it. Build on that.

We help businesses maintain and modernise existing .NET Framework applications, including software built by other developers.

Understand what is worth keeping, what needs to change and how to move towards modern .NET at a pace your business can manage.

A staged transition

One area at a time.

For example, start by moving reporting.

  1. 01 · Before

    Existing application

    .NET Framework

    • Customer records
    • Quoting
    • Reporting

    Move reporting first

  2. 02 · During migration

    Old and new working together

    .NET Framework

    • Customer records
    • Quoting

    Modern .NET

    • Reporting

Move other areas as they’re ready

  3. 03 · After migration

    Modern application

    Modern .NET

    • Customer records
    • Quoting
    • Reporting

Your team keeps using the system while individual areas move across.

Illustrative example · The sequence depends on your application.

Built around your business

Ready to improve your software, but still relying on it every day?

Your application may handle quoting, compliance, customer records or the processes that keep your business running. Over time, changes can become harder to make and the people who know the system can move on.

We start by understanding the software and the work it supports. From there, we build a practical plan for maintaining it today and improving it over time.

Recognise any of these?

  • Changes take too long or depend on one person who knows the code.
  • Hosting and deployments are difficult to reproduce or manage.
  • Older components make it harder to add features or connect other systems.
  • You want a clearer, more usable interface while retaining established business rules.

The path forward

How we modernise a legacy .NET Framework application

Understand what you have. Agree what comes next. Move forward in manageable stages.

Start with an application review
  1. Understand the application and the business

We begin with a paid review of the code, database, hosting and deployment process. We look at dependencies, integrations, access rules and the workflows people rely on, then identify the main risks and opportunities.

You receive a proposed scope, priorities and costs for the next stage. That might mean targeted improvements, a staged migration or rebuilding particular parts of the system.

  2. Establish a dependable foundation

Before substantial changes, we work through access, backups, recovery and how the application is built and deployed. Where useful, we improve the hosting setup so the existing system is easier to operate while modernisation proceeds.

A hosting move can be a separate first step. It does not, by itself, convert a .NET Framework application to modern .NET.

  3. Choose what to retain and what to replace

We assess which business logic and components can move forward, which dependencies need updating and which areas need a different implementation. The route depends on how the application was built and what the business needs next.

Modernisation can include a modern .NET API, an updated web interface and changes to the way systems exchange information. We choose the approach around your application rather than assuming every screen needs rebuilding.

  4. Move across in manageable stages

Where the application allows it, we introduce new functionality alongside the existing software. Individual areas move across as they are ready, giving your team opportunities to review progress and set priorities.

We plan how users move between old and new areas, how records are shared or migrated, and how permissions and integrations continue to work during the transition.

  5. Check the workflows and plan each release

We check the behaviour that matters to your business, including calculations, access rules, reports and connections to other systems. Your team reviews the changed workflows before we agree the release.

Each stage includes a transition plan covering data, deployment, recovery and any user guidance needed. Once an older component is no longer required, we plan its retirement.

Modernisation in practice

In practice: Stay Safe Auditz

An established application.
A practical path forward.

Stay Safe Auditz health and safety software
Stay Safe Auditz · Health and safety software
  • Build on existing business knowledge
  • Introduce new areas in stages
  • Consider web, mobile and integrations together

Stay Safe Auditz brings together health and safety records, documents and reporting across its web and mobile applications.

Philo’s approach builds on its established .NET Framework application, combining managed hosting with a modern .NET API and Vue web interface.

Introducing new areas alongside the existing software provides a practical way to modernise a system people rely on. Business rules, user access and the connections between web and mobile are considered throughout the transition.

The same approach can help other businesses retain useful capabilities, improve individual areas and plan changes around the people using their software.

Clarity before commitment

A plan you can make decisions about

The first step is a clear view of your application's condition and a proposal for what to do next. We explain the work in business terms, agree responsibilities and plan delivery around your priorities and budget.

Ongoing maintenance and managed hosting can be included in the wider plan, with their scope and costs agreed separately.

Start a conversation

Tell us about your existing .NET application

Start with what the software does, who relies on it and what has become difficult. If you know which .NET Framework version it uses or have an existing developer handover, that helps too.

We'll talk through your situation and whether a paid application review is the right next step.
