Stay Safe Auditz helps businesses in New Zealand and Australia organise their health and safety processes. Its web and mobile software brings together training records, equipment maintenance, risk management, contractor documents, meeting minutes and occurrence reporting.

For users, that means having practical information close at hand: when training needs renewing, which equipment needs an inspection, where a safety document is stored, or what was recorded after an incident. The platform supports work in the office and out in the field, so changes need to account for both experiences.

The challenge: move forward while supporting the existing system

Auditz had an established .NET Framework application running on virtual-machine hosting. The software already supported day-to-day business processes, but its hosting model made it harder to reproduce environments, manage deployments consistently and prepare for future development.

Philo was engaged to take over hosting and establish a more maintainable foundation. This was also the starting point for a wider modernisation programme. Keeping existing records, workflows and access available was a central requirement, alongside creating room to improve the product over time.

A managed hosting foundation

We containerised the existing .NET Framework application with Docker and moved it onto Philo-managed infrastructure. Packaging the application with its runtime reduces reliance on the configuration of an individual virtual machine and gives deployments a more repeatable starting point.

The container-based platform uses Kubernetes to manage the application services. It provides a foundation for supporting the established application alongside the newer components being introduced as part of the rebuild.

This separated the immediate hosting work from the longer-term application changes. Auditz could establish its new hosting foundation without making the entire software replacement a prerequisite.

Modernising the web application in stages

The next phase uses a staged rebuild: introduce new components alongside the existing application, then move individual areas across as they are ready. A shared entry point directs users to the appropriate part of the system, allowing modern and existing screens to coexist during the transition.

The rebuild uses a modern .NET API and a Vue-based web interface. Areas covered by the development include company and organisation administration, plans, alert configuration, required documents and other settings used to manage the platform.

Each area needs to retain the business rules behind the screen, including company access, user roles and customer branding. Existing links and the connections between the web application and mobile app also need to keep working as responsibilities move to the new software.

Delivering the work in smaller stages gives the Auditz team opportunities to review changes and agree priorities before the next part of the system is rebuilt.

Supporting mobile use

Mobile development forms part of the wider programme. The focus is on making the app clearer and more consistent while preserving the familiar tasks people use in the field, including checklists, alerts and occurrence reporting.

Because the app and web application work with the same business records, changes need to consider both. Company context, permissions and the handling of captured information matter just as much as the appearance of an individual screen.

A clearer public website

Alongside the application work, Philo rebuilt the public Auditz website. The refreshed site explains the product through everyday use cases, helps prospective customers explore its features and provides a clear route to request a demo.

It also brings product information, mobile app access and help resources together, supporting the experience from a visitor’s first introduction through to their use of the software.

The outcome and ongoing work

The completed hosting migration gives Auditz a more maintainable platform and a repeatable deployment model. Philo’s role extends beyond that initial move to ongoing application support and development across the web, mobile and public website.

The wider modernisation remains a staged programme. Its value is a practical path forward: retain the existing system’s useful capabilities, improve individual areas and build a foundation that can support further change. The full replacement of the original application is ongoing.

Technology

The established application uses .NET Framework, with Docker and Kubernetes supporting the hosting platform. The modern web application uses .NET 10, Vue and Vuetify; the mobile app uses React Native, and the public website uses Nuxt.
