Afternoon Design Studio
Afternoon Studio is a Tauranga-based design company that specialises in branding. Cam Attwood (the owner) approached Philo to create his website. This project was fairly light on software and focussed primarily on the user experience. Cam has some great projects to showcase so it was a matter of getting these across in a clear, functional way. It was also important that site visitors could navigate their way through key information and find exactly what they needed.

Challenge
It was imperative that Afternoon Studio’s website demonstrated how great a well-designed website could look. Part of Cam’s branding work often involves web projects so this was a chance to show off his expertise in play.
Solutions
- Create a new, bespoke build which would prioritise imagery (examples of Cam’s design work).
- Ensure the site was responsive so it still looked professional (and design-friendly) when viewed on mobile.
Outcome
The Afternoon Studio website is a stand-out example of how a designer’s website should look and feel. There is a perfect balance between aesthetics, good SEO copy, and functionality. Images of Cam’s design work dominate the homepage and automatically scroll so a large chunk of his portfolio can be viewed in one place. Once you’ve finished looking at his work, you can choose from a menu of helpful options at the bottom or from the Menu dropdown. Neutral tones are used throughout so copy can be read easily and there are no busy clashes with artwork. A unique feature is used in the ‘Our Work’ section; when you hover over a project piece it will darken and the cursor will change to an arrow. This small, quirky element ties in nicely with the Afternoon Studio brand.
A large number of Cam’s leads land on his website after finding him on Instagram so it has worked really well having a dedicated contact page they can visit. Overall, Cam was really happy with how his new site was looking and the quality customers it was helping him to connect with.
